About This Piece

1993, 20′ x 10′ x 10′, steel, fiberglass. This giant steel chair has a life-sized fiberglass horse standing on the seat, looking out as if on a promontory. It was conceived for children, to give them a jarring experience of scale, reminiscent of such literature as Gullliver’s Travels, or Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. It resides outside the Children’s Wing of The Denver Public Library. Voted Denver resident’s favorite sculpture, it has graced the covers of their phone book and road atlas, and was a question on Jeopardy!
