Join artist Gregory Fields and Denver Public Art near the Sloan’s Lake Park South Playgroud this Saturday, May 3 from 10am-2pm to participate in the future artwork there!
Community members are invited to share short feelings, thoughts, memories or experiences about their time in the Sloan’s Lake area that may be inscribed into ceramic tiles that will become part of “Community,” one of two steel sculptures commissioned from Gregory Fields for Sloan’s Lake Park that will welcome people at the playground entrance near the parking lot.
“Community” combines imagery of Sloan’s Lake wildlife, human presence both past and current, and words from community members (including you!) into an artwork that celebrates the unifying power of community. The steel structure takes the form of the letter “C,” representing the word “community.” It is adorned with abstract ceramic leaf forms, reflecting the plant life of the lake shore.
