About This Piece
Moving Forward is a sculptural meditation on resilience, healing, and progress. Defined by a continuous, fluid form, the piece rejects rigid edges in favor of movement—echoing the lived experience of the human body and spirit as they navigate change. Its shape suggests a journey rather than a destination, unfolding gradually and intentionally, much like recovery, growth, and transformation.
The flowing bands of color move across the surface like currents, transitioning between warm and cool tones to reflect emotional and physical states that coexist within us all. Warm hues evoke vitality, strength, and perseverance, while cooler tones offer calm, reflection, and restoration. Together, they create a visual rhythm that mirrors balance—between struggle and hope, vulnerability and endurance.
Installed at Denver Health, Moving Forward is meant to be encountered in motion. As viewers walk alongside it, the sculpture shifts and reveals itself slowly, reinforcing the idea that progress is not linear but continuous. The work honors patients, caregivers, and community members alike, acknowledging that healing happens in stages and that each step—no matter how small—is meaningful.
Ultimately, this piece is a reminder that forward movement does not require certainty, only momentum. Even in moments of pause or uncertainty, the act of continuing carries power. Moving Forward stands as a symbol of collective strength and the quiet courage it takes to keep going.
